Gutted! Still can’t believe AB de Villiers has retired. He had a chance to make his last stop memorable, a shot at World Cup 2019!
Once in a generation cricketer, ABD had it all. Every time he walked out to the middle, he gave South Africa all that was needed – be it 43 (297) or 162 (66).

He’d open, keep wickets, lead the side, field like a hawk and bowl military-medium to give the bowlers a breather.
One of the most admired cricketers of the recent time, ABD’s love and dedication for the game was unmatched. Like a true sportsman, he’d never raise his voice in anger.
Like your on-field game, may you have 360-degree success off the field as well. You will definitely be missed, @ABdeVilliers17. My best wishes to you! pic.twitter.com/LWHJWNXcVG

“AB has been a colossus on the world stage for well over a decade and we are indeed grateful that most of this time, he has been wearing the colours of our beloved Standard Bank Proteas.”
– CSA Acting CEO, Thabang Moroe
Thank you to everyone – especially the players past and present, MY TEAMMATES and opponents – for their good wishes and understanding. The last few days have been tough and emotional, but I’m taken aback by all the love and support! #proteafire for life
