Veteran opener and batsman Gautam Gambhir is set to take part in the next general election from Delhi. The party he will be representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Reports indicate that the BJP is excited to have Gautum on the team.
The current ruling party in Delhi is the Aam Aadmi Party or (AAP). The BJP hasn’t been able to be in control of Delhi for many years and wishes to change that. If Gambhir joins the BJP he will be following the likes of Mohammad Azharuddin and Navjot Singh Sindhu into the political arena.
Gambhir has been known for his services towards public welfare. He has constantly made donations towards the Indian army. Among his many social service ventures, he also had the Community Kitchen. On July 31, 2017, Gambhir’s organization started a community kitchen service to fee the poor.
Gambhir had played his last Test match in 2016 against England. His total came up to 4,154 in 58 Tests and 5,238 in 147 ODI’s. Among his other achievements include scoring 97 runs in the 2011 World cup finals against Sri Lanka. In the World T20 finals, he got 75 against Pakistan in 2007. India had won both those titles under the expert captaincy of MS Dhoni.
Gambhir showed his captaincy in the Indian Premier League (IPL), leading the Kolkata Knight Riders. Under his watch, KKR won two titles in 2012 and 2014.
Throughout his career, Gambhir has shown he is a team player and a good planner. Add in his love for social help and social welfare, one can see him being a good candidate in the BJP. We have seen many cricketers turn to politics and many have successful runs. Here’s hoping Gambhir will join that list.
