Team India took on Australia in the second T20 game today in the three match series here in Sydney Cricket Ground. Commentators often say the term – Every ball in T20 is an event. That was proved big time again as the game was never short of moments that was highlights worthy. Among all the great performances, Virat Kohli dropping a dolly of a catch and then running out the batsman was easily the most funniest moment of the evening.
Presence of mind shown by Virat Kohli
Australian team came out all guns blazing with a new opening pair today because of Aaron Finch’s niggle, Mathew Wade and D’Arcy Short opened the batting for the hosts. They were off to a flyer and in particular stand in captain Mathew Wade didn’t show any signs of nerves or reluctance and went big on his captaincy debut. He made a quick fire 50 and was on 58 off 31 when he was dismissed in a rather funny manner.
It was during the 8th over that the funny incident unfolded. Washington Sundar was bowling his third over and had Mathew Wade had already taken him to the cleaners earlier. So the youngster was under pressure and had bowled a tidy 5 balls giving away just 6 runs.
On the last ball, he sensed Mathew Wade would give him the charge and bowled a quick shorter one that Mathew Wade ended up spooning to extra covers where Virat Kohli was stationed.
It was a dolly of a catch and Virat Kohli who would gobble up those kind of chances 99 times out of 100 ended up fumbling and dropped the catch. But the captain was in the game and his quick presence of mind made him instinctively grab the ball and throw it at the strikers end to catch Mathew Wade short of his crease.
Mathew Wade was actually walking towards the dressing room after playing that awful shot and never even realised Virat Kohli had dropped the sitter until it was very late. Watch the incident in the below clip:
