धोनी को आगे आने की जरूरत है –
पूर्व भारतीय क्रिकेटर और तेज गेंदबाज वेंकटेश प्रसाद ने एक इंटरव्यू के दौरान भारतीय टीम की सातवीं एशिया कप जीत पर काफी सराहना की। दुर्भाग्य वश टीम की सराहना करते हुए प्रसाद ने टीम के हर सदस्य की सराहना नहीं की, और खास तौर पर उन्होने पूर्व कप्तान महेंद्र सिंह धोनी पर निशाना साधते हुए काफी कुछ कहा। प्रसाद ने रोहित शर्मा की बात करते हुए कि कप्तान बल्ले के साथ और अपनी योजनाओं में लय में नजर आए पर धोनी से मैं काफी निराश हूं।
प्रसाद ने कहा कि पिछले दो हफ्ते लगातार क्रिकेट खेलने के बाद भारत ने चैम्पियन की उपाधि हासिल की। रोहित शर्मा की कप्तानी में विश्व कप से पहले, यह जीत विश्व को काफी बड़ा संदेश दे रही है।मध्य क्रम की समस्या को सुधारने की आवश्यकता है। पूर्व कप्तान महेंद्र सिंह धोनी को बल्लेबाजी में सुधार करना होगा। विकेट कीपिंग की बात करें तो धोनी हमेशा से तेज तर्रार हैं।
टीम का प्रदर्शन
पूरी प्रतियोगिता में टीम के हर सदस्य ने अच्छा प्रदर्शन किया। रोहित शर्मा और शिखर धवन ने जहां बल्लेबाजी में रन बटोरे, वहीं जसप्रीत बूमराह और भुवनेश्वर कुमार ने तेज गेंदबाजी में अच्छा प्रदर्शन किया। सभी तेज गेंदबाज अच्छा प्रदर्शन कर रहे थे, और रोहित शर्मा की कप्तानी शानदार थी।
प्रसाद ने प्रतियोगिता में आई अन्य टीमों पर भी राय दी। उन्होने बांग्लादेश, होंक कोंग और अफगानिस्तान की टीमों की बात की। प्रसाद ने कहा कि निचली रैंक वाली टीमों ने ऊपरी रैंक वाली टीमों से ज्यादा अच्छा प्रदर्शन किया और संघर्ष दिखाया। इन टीमों ने बड़ी टीमों को चुनौती दी। यह दर्शाता है कि एशिया में क्रिकेट किस तरह तेजी से बढ़ रहा है। यह प्रतियोगिता नई टीमों के लिए बड़ा मौका साबित हुई।
पाकिस्तान के बारे में बात करते हुए प्रसाद ने कहा कि पाकिस्तान और श्रीलंका की टीमें अपने मुख्य खिलाडियों पर ज्यादा निर्भर करती हैं। जिस प्रकार देखा जा सकता है कि श्रीलंका एंजेलो मैथ्यूज और मलिंगा पर निर्भर करती है, वहीं पाकिस्तान भी शोएब मलिक पर निर्भर करती है।
अन्य टीमें
अन्य टीमों की बात करते हुए प्रसाद ने कहा कि बांग्लादेश को सराहा जाना चाहिए। उन्होने पूरी प्रतियोगिता में काफी संघर्ष किया । हर किसी को लग रहा था कि फ़ाइनल मुकाबला पाकिस्तान और भारत के बीच खेला जायेगा, पर बांग्लादेश ने इसे गलत साबित करते हुए फ़ाइनल में जगह बनाई। बांग्लादेश के बाद अफ़ग़ानिस्तान की टीम को भी काफी सराहा जाना चाहिए। उन्होने प्रतियोगिता का अंत भारत जैसी बड़ी टीम के खिलाफ आखिरी ओवर के टाइ से किया। यह जीत के बराबर ही माना जायेगा।
प्रसाद ने कहा कि हालांकि भारत जीत चुका है, पर बांग्लादेश के संघर्ष की तारीफ करनी होगी। वे पूरी प्रतियोगिता में हर टीम को टक्कर दे रहे थे। उन्हे पूरी प्रतियोगिता में जीत की भूख थी। उनके दो मुख्य खिलाड़ी शाकिब अल हसन और तमीम इकबाल चोटिल थे फिर भी उन्होने संघर्ष किया और अच्छा प्रदर्शन किया।

Dhoni needs to step up
Former Indian cricketer and pacer, Venkatesh Prasad in a recent interview praised team India after their seventh victory at the Asia Cup tournament. Unfortunately, it was not all praises for every team member, especially when it came to MS Dhoni. Prasad said that the skipper was on fire with his smart glovework and strategic interventions. But when it came to batting, Dhoni wasn’t as good as he used to be.
Prasad said that after the two-week cricket feast in the UAE team India rose as champions. Led by captain Rohit Sharma, the team won the tournament and this victory is a big statement ahead of next year’s World Cup. Here we even got to see improvement in the middle order. As for MS Dhoni, the former captain needs to step up in the field of batting. When it comes to wicket-keeping, Dhoni is a cut above the rest as sharp as always, Prasad added.
The team’s performance
The whole team performed well, all throughout the tournament. From the run getting duo of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan to the incredible pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The fast bowlers were on point and Rohit’s captaincy was excellent, Prasad added.
He also complimented the other teams who took part in the tournament. Teams like Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Hong Kong. Prasad said that these lower ranked teams posed more of a threat than the ones higher up. Teams who were thought to be powerhouses were challenged by lower ones. This shows how the landscape of Asian cricket has changed over the years. The tournament was a preview or an eye-opener to the new talent and teams rising.
While on the topic of Pakistan, Prasad said that, teams like Pakistan and Sri Lanka’s dependency on veterans is what put them down. Waiting on Shoaib Malik to do something in a time of need and Sri Lanka’s dependency on Angelo Mathews and Lasith Malinga is what cost them dearly.
While talking about the other teams Prasad also said that Bangladesh deserves a lot of praise. Their fighting spirit was to be inspired by. Everyone thought the final match will be again India vs Pakistan, but Bangladesh proved everyone wrong. Another team to be praised was Afghanistan. They were able to finish the tournament with a last over tie with India which was nothing less than sensational.
Even though India won, Bangladesh’s fight is praiseworthy, Prasad added. They were able to challenge any team throughout the tournament. It was hunger that was backed with a fighting spirit. Even after two important players, Shakib Al Hasan and Tamin Iqbal were lost to injury, they utilized all their resources and stayed consistent with their playing.
