Delhi Daredevils appoint former India cricketer as assistant coach

IPL franchise Delhi Daredevils has appointed former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif as the assistant coach. The decision was officially announced by Daredevils’ team management on Friday.
Kaif to join Delhi’s coaching staff
The former India batsman will now join the coaching staff of Delhi Daredevils which comprises of Ricky Ponting and James Hopes.
Kaif has previously worked as the assistant coach for the now defunct franchise Gujarat Lions in 2017. The Indian player also mentored the Chhattisgarh team in the Ranji Trophy.

We will make franchise and country proud: Kaif
The right-hand batsman is highly excited to be a part of Delhi Daredevils in the IPL. He said that he is delighted to be a part of the Delhi Daredevils and is looking forward to bringing together an exciting group of boys, who are going to make their franchise and country proud.
He explained that with the management team’s support, he is sure that they will help nurture many of the younger boys in the squad and make this team a force to be reckoned with in the IPL.
Kaif a natural mentor for youngsters: Mustafa Ghouse
The Delhi Daredevils Team Director Mustafa Ghouse is also very excited to have Kaif in the coaching unit. He pointed out that Kaif brings in huge amounts of experience and a keen understanding of the game to Delhi’s backroom staff.
He added that the former India player is highly admired on the circuit and will be a natural mentor for the youngsters in the team. Ghouse is also confident that his leadership and guidance will help the team tremendously in the new IPL season.

Daredevils have performed poorly in the IPL in the recent times. The franchise has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2013 and has in fact finished at the last spot in three editions.
