1. Hashim Amla
Former South African batter Hashim Amla has been arguably one of the best openers that represented the Proteas in cricket. He broke various records in his career. He is the holder of the Fastest 5000 runs in ODI. The right-hander achieved the feat in his 101 innings in a match against West Indies in 2015. Not only fastest to 5000 runs, but he also fastest to 2000, 3000, 4000, 6000 and 7000 runs in ODIs. He ended his career with 8113 runs with an average of 49.46 and a strike rate of 88.39.

2. Viv Richards
West Indian legend Viv Richards is second on the list of Fastest 5000 runs in ODI. The batting great, engraved his name in history in his 114th inning during the match against England in 1987. In his ODI career, he amassed 6721 at an average of 47. When he scored his 5000th run, he was the fastest batter to reach the landmark and held the record for more than 25 years till it was equalled by Virat Kohli and broken by Hashim Amla.
3. Virat Kohli
Having scored more than 10000 runs in ODI, Virat Kohli is considered as one of the best 50-over format players. He completed 5000 runs in his 114th innings in a match against West Indies in 2013. At that time it was the joint-fastest record but then later in 2015, Hashim Amla surpassed him to become the fastest to 5000 runs in ODI. Notably, Virat Kohli holds the record of fastest to 10000 runs in the 50-over format. He so far has scored 12169 runs in 245Â at a staggering average of 59.07.

4. David Warner
David Warner reached the landmark in his 115th innings when he side locked horns against India in 2020. Having scored runs at a consistent rate, Warner is arguably one of the best openers in the world at the moment. The southpaw has so far scored 5455 runs in 126 innings at an average of 45.45.
5. Joe Root
England’s red-ball skipper Joe Root stands fifth on the list of Fastest 5000 runs in ODI. Mostly being considered as the Test batter, Root has done exceptionally well in ODIs. The right-hander has amassed 5962 runs so far in his 50-over career at an impressive average of 50.10. He scored his 5000th run in a match against West Indies in 2019.
