The match 22 of IPL 2020 between Kings XI Punjab and Sunrisers Hyderabad was almost a one-sided affair. Sunrisers dominated the opponents from ball one. But despite the loss, they have lots of positives to take away from this match. The most important of those is the character that Nicholas Pooran showed. With wickets falling at the other end, he smashed a quick-fire fifty in just 17 balls, thereby completing the fastest 50 of IPL 2020.

This herculean effort from Pooran came in the second innings of the match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kings XI Punjab. Chasing a mammoth total of 202 set by SRH batsmen, KXIP lost wickets quite early in the powerplay. He came into bat in the fifth over when KXIP were struggling at 31-2. But despite the situation, he showed no signs of playing cautiously but instead started swinging his bat from ball one. He ended up scoring his maiden IPL fifty in just the ninth over of the match. He reached the milestone in just 17 balls, courtesy of seven humungous sixes and two boundaries. The over that he cashed in the most was the 9^th over of the match which was bowled by SRH’s young leggie Abdul Samad. He scored 28 runs in just that one over.

Pooran breaks record books

With this blistering knock, he surpassed Sanju Samson (19-ball 50 against Chennai Super Kings) to secure the record for the fastest fifty of IPL 2020.

This quick-fire fifty from Pooran stands the fifth highest in the overall list of fastest IPL fifties. His KXIP captain KL Rahul leads the charts with a record 14-ball 50, which he scored against Delhi Capitals in 2018. Yusuf Pathan (15-ball 50 vs Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2014), Sunil Narine (15-ball 50 vs Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2017), and Suresh Raina (16-ball 50 vs Kings XI Punjab in 2014) follow Rahul in this illustrious list.
