England’s dreams shattered; AUS lift World T20I trophy for 4th time

England’s dreams of becoming the 50-over and T20I champions at the same time in women’s cricket were shattered by a ruthless Australia who won their fourth world T20I title by defeating England by eight wickets in the 2018 World T20I finals at Antigua.

Aussies crowned champions after a one-sided game

The fans expected a thrilling contest in the finals as both Australian team and England are top teams with plenty of match-winners.

However, Australian bowlers pushed England batters on the backfoot early in the innings and then courtesy of regular wickets England never arrived to the party.

Except for Danielle Wyatt (43 off 37 balls) and skipper Heather Knight (25 off 28 balls) there was no resistance from England batters. Infact except for these two, no other batter reached double figures.

England’s agony finally came to an end in the 20th over with the team getting all-out for a paltry score of 105 runs.

Australia chase the target in 16th over 

In the second half, whatever little hopes England had of making a match out of this small total were blown apart when Alyssa Healy clobbered England’s strike bowler Anya Shrubsole for 12 runs in the first over.

After it, it was all about mere proceedings and Australian team eventually completed the chase in the 16th over with just two wickets down.

Last 2 world cups hurt us: Lanning

After the match, Australia skipper Meg Lanning admitted that they did not have their best day in the field. But the bowlers did a good job.

She noted that the last two World Cups really hurt them and they had to change a few things and move it forward. She feels that the group embraced it and it was a very satisfying win.

She also cleared that the loss against India did not rock them – maybe a couple of years before it would have rocked them – but they were very calm.

She further added that all the support staff did a great job and Aussie fans have travelled a long way.
