After a week-long break, India and England will resume what has been a highly pulsating battle between the two sides during the course of the first three Test matches. While the first Test at Birmingham was a heart-wrenching affair with the momentum of game shifting every session, England dominated the tourists thoroughly at Lord’s to take a 0-2 lead in the series.

With a 0-5 drubbing looming, India rose to the challenge at Nottingham and played a near-perfect game to inflict a 203-run defeat on the hosts. With the series ledger reading 2-1, both sides will head to the Ageas Bowl for another riveting chapter of the 5-match series.

95 & 70:– He may have been having a barren run-of-form in the ongoing series (80 runs in 6 innings) but it’s not the first time Alastair Cook founds himself in such situation going into Southampton. Back in 2014, going into the Ageas Bowl, Cook hadn’t won any of his last ten Tests (0-5 in Australia, 0-1 vs India at home and 0-1 vs Sri Lanka) as England captain and was averaging 23 with the bat during that period. He responded with a 95 and 70 to take England to an eventual series win.

5994 in 118 innings:– India’s captain Virat Kohli is just six runs away in completing 6,000 Test runs. If the Indian captain gets the desired six runs in the first innings of the Southampton Test, he would have reached the milestone in 119 innings taking him above Sachin Tendulkar (120 innings) and just two behind Sunil Gavaskar (117 innings) who holds the Indian record (117 innings) for the fastest to reach the 6000-run mark.

One- Only once in the history of the game that a team had come from a 0-2 deficit to win the rubber 3-2. Bradman’s team did that against England back in 1936-37.

34.10– The Ageas Bowl seems to be the most batting friendly of English wickets this season. The average runs-per-wicket at Southampton this season is 34.10, the highest among all Test venues in England.

602:– The highest no of runs scored by an Indian batsman on English soil. Rahul Dravid did that back in 2002. With 440 runs already in the bank and four legitimate innings yet to go, Kohli can surpass ‘The Wall’ to register the highest aggregate of runs in England by an Indian; a sharp contrast from his 134 in 10 innings back in 2014.
