New Zealand have already lost the series to England after losing the first two tests of the three match test series. They are in desperate need of points when it comes to World test championship as they are staring at a group stage exit in this cycle. In addition to this, they have also suffered a huge blow with their important batsman tested positive for covid-19 on Wednesday.
ENG vs NZ: Devon Conway tested positive for covid-19
New Zealand are the defending WTC champions. They defeated India in the final in 2021 in England. They also whitewashed England just before the WTC final in England. Their pace bowling attack is one of the best when it comes to English conditions and it was expected that they would once again smash England in this series but England under new management in Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes have managed to turn things around brilliantly to say the least.
With New Zealand staring at a whitewash, they have suffered another huge blow as their batting mainstay in Devon Conway was tested positive for covid-19 and is ruled out of the final test of the series. New Zealand haven’t named any replacements for the southpaw.
Earlier, Michael Bracewell was ruled out of the 3rd test after testing positive for covid-19 who made his debut in the 2nd test in the absence of Colin de Grandhomme. Here’s what New Zealand coach Gary Stead had to say about the unfortunate event.

Michael’s obviously been in close contact with everyone else. It’s unfortunate for him, but the symptoms are mild, he’s feeling good and he’ll be out of isolation when we start training again at Leeds
Kane Williamson to return for the 3rd test
New Zealand skipper who missed the 2nd test after returning positive for covid-19 will be available for the 3rd test. Kane Williamson has already joined with the team ahead of the game. A defeat in this game would more or less knock New Zealand out of the competition for the final spot in this WTC cycle.
