The #1 ranked batsman in the world in tests will miss the 2nd test of the 2 match test series against England in Edgbaston, Birmingham starting 10th June. Kane Williamson missed the first few games of IPL as he was nursing his elbow injury and it has seemed to resurface again which has forced him to take the tough decision with series on the line.
Will Young to replace Kane Williamson
New Zealand were in a dominating position throughout the first test against England and if not for rain, they could have seen a positive result but it was not meant to be. With series on the line, New Zealand have faced a huge blow with their captain being ruled out of the game with the WTC final in mind and they have decided to play Will Young at #3 in place of Kane Williamson.

Here’s what New Zealand coach Gary Stead had to say about Kane Williamson’s injury
It’s not an easy decision for Kane to have to miss a Test, but we think it’s the right one. He’s had an injection in his elbow to relieve the irritation he’s been experiencing when he bats and a period of rest and rehabilitation will help maximize his recovery.
He further added that they are well aware of the big game against India on June 18th and also hoped that the veteran batsman is fit and ready to play in the WTC final.

Tom Latham to lead in Kane Williamson’s absence
Tom Latham will captain the Blackcaps in the 2nd game and this will be the 3rd time in Tom Latham’s career where he will be donning the captain’s hat in tests for New Zealand.
An exciting game is on the cards as a win in this game will fetch a series win to either side.
