Sunil Gavaskar gives bold prediction: Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar has given his prediction for the forthcoming five match Test series versus England. The Indian team is currently in Southampton, as they prepare for the ICC World Test Championship final against New Zealand. Virat Kohli and his men have a long English summer ahead as they stay there until September 14.
India to whitewash England says Gavaskar
Sunil Gavaskar firmly believes that Team India has the potential to whitewash England at home this time around.
“The Test series against England starts more than six weeks after the WTC final, so the result of that single game will have little or no impact on the India v England series. India will win the series 4-0 since it’s being played in August-September,” Gavaskar stated.
Though it may sound a bit bizarre, the former World Cup winner might just be playing mind games, something of which Michael Vaughan is quite familiar with.
In the home series versus England, there were plenty of English fans and experts who expressed their discontent with the surfaces in India that provided assistance to the spinners. Throughout the series, the Indian wickets were termed as “land mines” by some. Taking that into notice, Sunil Gavaskar spoke abot how England would prefer having a bit of grass on the surface to even the odds.
“Having moaned about the pitches in India earlier this year, it won’t be a surprise if the groundsman in England leaves a little grass on the surface. That is no longer a worry as India have an attack that will also thrive on it and cause problems for the England batsmen too,” Gavaskar added.
