According to multiple relevant sources, it has been confirmed that Rohit Sharma will not be available for selection in the India playing 11 for the upcoming fifth and final Test match against England scheduled to start from Friday. ” Team India Captain Mr Rohit Sharma has tested positive for COVID-19 following a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted on Saturday. He is currently in isolation at the team hotel and is under the care of the BCCI Medical Team,” said an official statement from the BCCI.
After the news of Rohit Sharma testing positive for Covid-19 and KL Rahul already out of the series, the Indian team management called up Mayank Agarwal as the backup opener. Agarwal is now very much likely to be included in the India playing 11 and open the batting alongside Shubman Gill. However, there are also reports stating that Cheteshwar Pujara can be the makeshift opener with both Hanuma Vihari and Shreyas Iyer finding a place in the playing XI.
