ENG vs IND: Rohit Sharma COVID Positive ahead of 5th Test? Who will be India Captain?
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has posted on Twitter that Indian Test captain Rohit Sharma has tested positive for Covid-19 following a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted on Saturday (25 June, 2022). Incidentally, India is currently involved in a four-day practice Test match against Leicestershire County Club and Rohit did not came out to bat in the second innings. However, it is also understood that the BCCI will be conducting another COVID test on Sunday to confirm the situation.
But it will be very difficult for Rohit Sharma to be completely fit to lead India in the all-important fifth and final Test match against England starting from 1 July. The right-handed opener was in a staggering form when this Test series was played in 2021 having composed a total of 368 runs. It will also be interesting to see who will lead India against England in the fifth Test if Rohit fails to recover in time. Jasprit Bumrah is most likely to be named as the stand-in Test captain.Â
” Team India Captain Mr Rohit Sharma has tested positive for COVID-19 following a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted on Saturday. He is currently in isolation at the team hotel and is under the care of the BCCI Medical Team,” said an official statement from the BCCI.
