ENG vs IND: Michael Vaughan has predicted an incredibly tough time ahead for Team India when Virat Kohli and Co play in the five-match test series in England against the host nation.
Team India’s first away assignment is the inaugural World Test Championship (WTC) Final against New Zealand at Rose Bowl Cricket Ground in Southampton which will start on August 18. And while all the attention is on that one-off contest, the subsequent five-match tests series between hosts England and visitors India is starting to trend with cricket experts and fans all making their predictions for what may happen in that series.
ENG vs IND: Michael Vaughan Says India Will Be Hammered In England
India accumulated the most points during the two year period, that kick-started on August 1, 2019, to qualify for the WTC Final. During that period, Virat Kohli and Co dominated the tests, with their most notable series win coming Down Under, when, in the absence of Virat Kohli, stand-in captain Ajinkya Rahane guided Team India to an improbable 2-1 win.
India’s away record has improved significantly, but conquering England remains an uphill task.
India fell like winter wheat in the last three tests series in England, losing 11 out of 14 tests, winning just two and drawing once. And former England captain Michael Vaughan predicts the trend to continue and says India will be hammered in England once again.
“England will win. It’s in England. I mean you all have to look at the trends over the last few years. Every time England have gone to India, they’ve been hammered. And every time India have come to England, they’ve been hammered. That’s the fact. And I think that will carry on. England are a team at home that are very, very difficult to beat with the Duke ball,” said Vaughan.
England vs India Tests: India’s Recent Away Record In England
India batted against the odds in 2007 and won an away series in England for the first time in 21 years.
MS Dhoni’s world champions in 2011 were hammered 0-4 by England. India started the next test tour better after winning the first tests, but England came hard and won the next three games to win the series 3-1. Four years later, India was beaten even more comprehensively as England won 4-1 in the five-match tests series.
India in England: Last Three Tests Series:
- 2011 – four-match tests series, India lost 0-4.
- 2014 – five-match tests series, India lost 1-3.
- 2018 – five-match tests series, India lost 1-4.

IND vs NZ WTC Final:
India will touchdown in England for the one-off tests match in the WTC Final against New Zealand. As per so-called experts, the conditions at the Rose Bowl will favour New Zealand’s bowlers more. Only time will tell. Virat Kohli and Co is a streetwise team and can mould itself to play in any condition.
