After having won the toss and opting to bowl first, Australia captain Pat Cummins mentioned that Cameron Green misses out from the AUS playing 11 for the ENG vs AUS Ashes 2023 5th Test match. Cummins further revealed that they have brought back off-spinner Todd Murphy who played the Headingley Test match as well. Incidentally, Green has failed to contribute both with the bat and ball so far in the four Ashes 2023 Test matches in England. The seam bowling all-rounder has scored just 103 runs and taken as many as 5 wickets from 3 Test matches. On the other hand, after going with an all-pace attack in Manchester, Australia have decided to play Murphy as the Oval pitch tends to assist the spinners.

“Had to double check that (when it came down tails, firs toss won in this series). We will have a bowl. Little bit of cloud cover and wicket looks good. It is a similar side to the one that played four years ago (2019), we know what we did that time and how we can change things. One change – Cam Green misses out and Todd Murphy comes in,” said Australia captain Pat Cummins during the toss.
