After a heartening defeat in the Edgbaston Test match, England also lost the second Test by a margin of 43 runs at the hands of Australia. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have named the confirmed ENG Playing 11 for the ENG vs AUS Ashes 2023 3rd Test match starting from Thursday and the biggest revelation is that the pace bowling duo of James Anderson and Josh Tongue have been rested. Anderson has looked below-par in both the Ashes 2023 Test matches so far having picked up just 3 wickets at an average of over 75. He even failed to take a single wicket on a green Lord’s wicket during Day 1 under overcast conditions. On the other hand, Tongue was really impressive while playing his just 2nd Test match for England and also took as many as 5 wickets in the game. However, England have brought variety into their bowling attack with the inclusion of both Mark Wood and Chris Woakes while senior off-spinner Moeen Ali also makes a comeback after recovering from a finger injury.
England’s vice-captain Ollie Pope was recently ruled out for the remainder of Ashes 2023 five-match Test series with a shoulder injury. But the hosts have not included any specialist batter in the playing 11 for the Headingley Test match. This means that one of Harry Brook or even Moeen Ali will be batting at the No.3 spot.
