MS Dhoni’s struggles in ODI cricket have become even more significant with Rishabh Pant scoring heavily in Test cricket. And now former Indian cricketer Ajit Agarkar wants Indian team management to play Risbabh Pant instead of Dhoni for at least two ODIs against West Indies.
The former pace bowler made this claim while speaking with an online cricket portal. Agarkar said that he cannot believe that Pant is not part of India’s team for the shorter format. He feels that the way he bats, he is naturally suited for the shorter format.
Agarkar admitted that the conditions at Rajkot where the Indian wicket-keeper slammed 92 runs off just 84 balls were not as tough as England but he pointed out that Pant can turn games for India and he has the ability to turn games in one session.
The right-arm pace bowler said that hopefully, the selectors bring Pant for ODIs sooner, rather than later, against the West Indies in the ODI series. According to the former India cricketer, there are five ODIs and there will be an opportunity to play him somewhere, whether as a batter or a wicketkeeper. He explained that everyone knows what Dhoni can do and hence he feels that there is no harm in resting Dhoni for a couple of games.

To back his claim, Agarkar said that there is no left-hander in the middle-order for India and the way the Delhi batsman strikes the ball, it is suited for any format.
He further added that in the top six, purely with his batting ability there are no doubt that the left-hander has to be given the opportunity to see whether he is good enough.
