As any fan would know, the benchmark for fitness is very strict and very high made by the Indian team management. So, naturally, anyone trying their hardest to pass but fails would be very disappointed. That was the case for Ambati Rayudu when he failed the Yo-Yo test.
During the post-match conference in Bangalore, Rayudu told the reporters that he was disappointed in himself that he couldn’t clear the test. Due to him not clearing them he will miss out on the limited-overs leg of the England tour. He also added that he wasn’t cross with the program as he understands the high standard of fitness required to play for India.
He also said that he believes in the test and was only disappointed in himself for not being able to pass it. This disappointment was a good thing as it motivated him to try harder and he was able to clear it.
Rayudu made an impressive 62 runs, unbeaten which was instrumental in India A’s five-wicket win over Australia. When asked about why he wasn’t able to clear it the first time a few months back. Rayudu responded by saying that he cleared it a few days ago and also got the call-up. Rayudu at the moment is excited and happy to be back.
When asked about the strictness of the tests, he responded by saying he understands why the high standards exist. He is also happy and proud that such high benchmarks are there for fitness for players to prove themselves worthy to join the team.
During the interview, he was also asked about the inclusion of Hanuma Vihari. To this, he said he was happy for the player as well as for Prithvi Shaw. He also added that he wasn’t able to see much of Hanuma’s playing as he was occupied elsewhere but is happy that young players are also getting chances and call-ups.
When asked about his career so far, Rayudu said that he has changed as a cricketer. 16 years in the game and he takes each day and game as it comes. Lastly, he added it was a matter of huge pride that he has been given the chance to play for his country.
