India A Captain, Shreyas Iyer, is disappointed over not getting the national call for so long despite his consistency in bulling domestic bowlers in first-class cricket. He said it impacts the performance of a player who is continuously giving his/her best but not considered for the higher level. It keeps on running in your mind even when you are on the field, and you shouldn’t be defocused at all else you will end up in lose.
“It is tough to be patient. When you perform consistently, get runs and then don’t get into the (senior) team, it runs into your mind. And, when you face quality bowling at the top-notch level, your performance keeps fluctuating. So, you have to keep yourself focused and, as I said, it affects you at times” said Iyer.
Shreyas has been proving his eligibility to play for the national team at domestic level, and he made his debut in a one-dayer against Sri Lanka in 2017, but he was dropped after his not-so-impressive knock. Shreyas scored 9, 88 and 65 runs in three ODIs. It was not a good start for him, but he maintained the first-class record, where he is consistently on fire by scoring heavily on the boards, but there is no clue about his entry into the senior level.
Once an entrepreneur said that sometimes you have to create the “need” for your Product/Service and Shreyas has done it. He can fill the void space at number four in ODI. He can fit in the shoes of a top-notch middle-order batsman, and it is crucial to consider him first because India wants to clear the clouds on the much-discussed batting order and for that, they need reliable options.
In Test, he has to walk a bit long to get into the squad, but he can be a game changer in One-dayer.
