IPL franchise Delhi Daredevils recently changed their name as ‘Delhi Capitals’ and interestingly the Twitterati responded to it in a hilarious manner. The franchise was trolled for choosing the name ‘Capitals’ and made some witty associations.
Delhi decide to revamp completely
The IPL franchise has fared poorly in the recent seasons and courtesy of this poor show the management has decided to opt for a complete revamp. After changing the coach and the support staff, the management has now changed the name and the logo of the franchise as well.
Since its inception, the franchise was named as Delhi Daredevils but now the management has renamed it to ‘Delhi Capitals’.
However, the new name failed to impress Twitterati who trolled the franchise for changing their name.
According to a report by an English newspaper, the top brass of the team’s management didn’t like the name ‘devil’ and hence looked for alternatives.

Legendary answer at unveiling of Delhi Daredevils being renamed Delhi Capitals.
Q: What does Delhi Capitals mean?
A: Capitals is like… what does Mumbai Indians mean? It's like that.Truly, there can be no other rationale. The only other franchise name that makes as less sense.

Delhi’s poor show in IPL
In the first few seasons, the franchise was one of the strongest franchises in IPL. The team reached the semi-finals in the first two seasons but since then the franchise has finished among the top four teams in the points table only once in nine seasons.

Three times in the last six seasons, the team finished at the bottom of the table reflecting the team’s consistently poor show.
However, this season as a part of the complete revamp, the team has hired Ricky Ponting as the coach of the team and have also roped in former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif as the scout for discovering raw talent from the country.
The inclusion of opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan can be a big moment for the team as well.
