Delhi Capitals, the 2020 IPL finalists, have revealed their captain for the upcoming IPL 2023 season. The talismanic and one of the IPL legends David Warner is set to lead the Capitals, whereas, Indian all-rounder Axar Patel will be his deputy.
Delhi Capitals Captain: David Warner
David Warner is one of the stalwarts of IPL cricket. He started his IPL career in 2009 for this very franchise but had his best stint with SRH since 2013. Warner has also led SRH to their maiden and only IPL title in 2016. The left-hander was the mainstay with the bat for SRH till the time he played for the franchise. After getting released by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2022 auctions, Delhi Capitals once again purchased David Warner for INR 6 Crores.

Warner represented DC in the 2022 IPL and scored 432 runs from just 12 innings at an average of 48 and a strike rate of 150.52. Warner was the prime pick to captain DC in the absence of regular skipper Rishabh Pant and the announcement doesn’t comes as a surprise.
Will Rishabh Pant play IPL 2023?
The original Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant won’t be playing a part in IPL 2023. Pant met with a serious road accident in December last year while going to his hometown Roorkee from New Delhi. The wicket keeper batter was lucky enough to survive in the accident, but multiple injuries and recovery time will keep him out of IPL 2023. Pant is even expected to remain out of action for almost 6 months. We hope Rishabh recovers soon and play for India sooner rather than later.
