Deepak Chahar Injury: Washington Sundar named replacement of injured speedster ahead of IND vs SA 2nd ODI

Bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar is set to replace pacer Deepak Chahar in the Indian squad ahead of the second One Day International (ODI) against South Africa. Chahar suffered stiffness in his back after the third and final T20 International between India and South Africa, at Indore.

The Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI), released a statement on Saturday (October 8) regarding the matter. The release further said that Chahar, 30, will head back to the National Cricket Academy (NCA), in Bengaluru, and will be monitored by the medical team over there.
The right-arm-pacer is one of the four reserved players in the Indian squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia. He bowled well in the recently concluded South Africa series (T20I) and is a vital member deeming the biggest forthcoming event of the year.
Chahar’s name is also in the discussions, to replace injured Jasprit Bumrah for the T20 WC. However, he is unlikely to be the one, when Mohammed Shami, the experienced Indian pacer is available. Besides, Chahar picked three wickets in his last three consecutive outings against South Africa. He also scored 31 runs in merely 17 deliveries, with two fours and three sixes, in the third game, on Tuesday (October 4).

Washington Sundar’s stint with Lancashire
Sundar, on the other hand, is coming after playing the Royal London One-Day Cup in England. He represented Lancashire in the 50-over domestic English tournament. He picked up three wickets in three games that he played. Furthermore, Sundar also played for the same club, in a couple of County Championship – Division 1 games. He attained a fivefer during his time with the club there.
The 23-year-old will now be in the Indian camp for the remaining two ODIs. The second ODI will be played tomorrow (Sunday, October 9) in Ranchi. Meanwhile, Delhi will host the third and final one, on October 11 (Tuesday).
