In his absence, Shikhar Dhawan took over the captaincy duties but unfortunately, Punjab Kings lost the match by a convincing margin of 7 wickets. Ahead of the match against DC, Agarwal was also seen practicing hard in the nets and he should return to the PBKS playing 11 as his inclusion will strengthen the batting line-up.

In the crucial match against Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings captain Mayank Agarwal led his team from the front with an excellent knock of 52 runs off 32 deliveries that included 6 fours and 2 sixes. This was his first half-century in the ongoing edition of the IPL.
