Mumbai Indians achieved the tough feat of defeating the table-toppers of IPL 2019 CSK twice in the season as they defeated CSK by a whopping 46 runs at Chennai.

This win has also consolidated Mumbai’s position in the top four of IPL season 12 while Chennai still retain their top position.

Chennai routed for just 109 runs

Chasing 156 runs on a slow Chennai wicket, CSK got off to a poor start as Lasith Malinga removed Shane Watson in the first over and Hardik Pandya sent back Suresh Raina in the fourth over. In the next over Rayudu perished against Krunal as CSK slipped to three down for 34.

The flurry of wickets continued in the middle overs as well. From the other end, Murali Vijay playing his first game of the season lasted for 35 balls and scored 38 runs but he too was dismissed by Bumrah in the 12th over. Dwayne Bravo (20 off 17 balls) and Mitchell Santner (22 off 20 balls) showed some resistance but they were short-lived. Malinga dismissed both of them and finished with four wickets as CSK was all-out for a mere 109 runs in 17.4 overs.

Rohit guides Mumbai’s innings

Earlier in the night, Rohit Sharma scored a fine half-century to regain his touch of scoring long innings. He scored 67 off 48 balls while Evan Lewis produced 32 off 30 balls.

However Mumbai didn’t receive any flourish in the death overs as Kieron Pollard scored 13 off 12 balls and Hardik Pandya managed 23 off 18 balls. Mitchell Santner was outstanding with the ball as he claimed two wickets and gave away just 13 runs in his four overs.
