CSK CEO hints MS Dhoni’s future role at the franchise

If you are searching for the best player-team unions in cricket, it’s very hard to look beyond the CSK-Dhoni bond. Ever since the beginning of the IPL, way back in 2008, Dhoni had been their leader. With all the rest of the IPL teams chopping and changing their captains during this period, CSK has never had a shadow of doubt regarding MS Dhoni’s vision for the team. But, now that he is entering the flag end of his career, questions have arisen regarding his future role at CSK. The CEO of the Chennai based team in his latest interview cleared this long-standing doubt of the fans.
MS Dhoni will be CSK’s boss in future, says their present CEO
The name MS Dhoni has become so synonymous with CSK over the years, that it is unimaginable to think of him leaving the franchise once his playing days are over. The passionate fans of Tamil Nadu will also be keen to see their ‘Thala’ in yellow forever in whatever avatar possible. If what their present CEO has said is to be believed, the yellow army can forever witness ‘Thala Dharisanam’ even after he decides to retire. CSK’s CEO Kasi Viswanathan feels that MS Dhoni will take over as the team boss in possibly 10 years from now.
“In 10 years from now, my feeling is that he will be a permanent fixture in Chennai as the Chennai Super Kings boss,” Viswanathan was quoted as saying on Star Sports 1 Tamil show ‘Dhoni Vazhi Thani Vazhi’.
India Cements, the owners of CSK has benefitted a lot due to their association with the former Indian captain. His rise as a cricketer and particularly as a leader has helped big time in the popularity of the franchise and the brand. So it is a no brainer that they will hold onto MS Dhoni for as long as they could. In him, they have an Icon for a lifetime.
The reason behind MS Dhoni’s ‘Thala’ nickname
In the interview, Viswanathan also revealed why Dhoni is called as ‘Thala’ by the CSK fans. ‘Thala’ in Tamil is synonymous with the term ‘leader’. A term that has been over the years used to describe the popular Tamil actors and politicians were given to Dhoni, as a tribute for his incomparable leadership abilities.
“Only one thing I knew that he’s able to get the best out of the team by himself. He’s able to get the best out of any member of the team. That’s why we’d call him Thala,” Viswanathan said.
