Covid-19 IPL: The Indian Premier League has been hit hard by Covid-19 following reports of KKR players contracting the virus. Today’s IPL game between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore has been postponed as a result. It’s a big, big blow to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) who keep assuring players of a safe and healthy environment despite a massive jump in positive Covid-19 cases in India. Moreover, there are also rumours that players may have got the infection from staff.
Covid-19 IPL:
According to the reports, several players in the KKR camp are feeling unwell and the IPL governing council had to take a tough decision of postponing the match.
There’s no official statement yet on the players’ name but it is believed that Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier may have contracted the virus when they went out for scans for injuries. Unfortunately, Australian speedster Pat Cummins is also amongst the players who fell ill. He is reportedly in isolation at the moment.

What Lies Ahead For IPL 2021?
There’s a debate raging whether a sports spectacle such as IPL should go ahead amidst a negative environment influenced by the surging number of positive coronavirus cases in India. When lives are at risk, sports is the last thing people gets worried about. Several sections in society are demanding IPL be cancelled. But BCCI has remained adamant that it can organise the cash-rich event. However, if Covid-19 infiltrate the BCCI’s secured bio bubble, it will almost be impossible for BCCI to go ahead with the IPL schedule.
