West Indies batsmen and all-rounders have always enjoyed a huge fan base in India ever since the beginning of the IPL. But rarely have a bowler from the Caribbean gone onto become popular in India even before proving his skills in the IPL. One such cricketer is Sheldon Cottrell. In his latest interview, the talented fast-bowler picked the best batsman out of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in limited-overs.
When the ‘Salute’ got recognized
Known for his iconic salute celebration, Cottrell has played 2 Tests, 35 ODIs and 27 T20Is for the West Indies and has picked up 2, 49, and 36 wickets respectively in each of these formats. He was impressive in the ICC World Cup 2019 where he caught everyone’s attention with his outstanding bowling and fielding performances. This run of form in international cricket along with consistent performances in the CPL earned him his initial IPL contract in the last year’s auction. He was picked by the Kings XI Punjab for a whopping 8.5 Cr.
Sheldon Cottrell names the best white-ball batsman
Cottrell was involved in an Instagram live session recently. He was asked many questions ranging from his career, early life, and about his excitement on playing in the IPL. In the chat, he was asked to name the best white-ball batsman at the moment between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Cottrell didn’t hesitate and was quick to give his answer. He named the Indian skipper Virat Kohli as the best white-ball player. He added that Kohli edges over Rohit in his white-ball performances. Both of them are placed at ranks one and two in the ICC ODI rankings.
“Virat Kohli is the best white-ball batsman at the moment. I will go with Virat Kohli as he just gets edge over Rohit Sharma,” Cottrell said.
Sheldon Cottrell names the toughest batsman he has ever bowled to
Furthermore, he was asked to name the toughest batsman he has bowled at so far in his career. The southpaw from Jamaica gave out the name of newly-appointed KXIP captain KL Rahul. He clarified that he was not being biased as Rahul is the captain of KXIP, but genuinely found it difficult to bowl to him in the recently concluded India-West Indies series. Rahul was on top of his form during that series and even donned the role of a finisher in that series.
“KL Rahul is the toughest batsman I’ve bowled to thus far. It’s not like he’s KXIP captain, but he’s really the toughest I’ve bowled to in my career,” revealed Cottrell.
