Former captain dropped; Shreyas Iyer added in Mumbai’s Ranji squad

The team of Mumbai which is performing poorly in the ongoing Ranji Trophy has made sweeping changes in their squad in a bid to change fortunes. For the match against Baroda, the team management has roped in Shreyas Iyer to boost its batting strength while former captain Suryakumar Yadav has been dropped.

Iyer in; Yadav, Jaffer out

Right-hand batsman Shreyas Iyer is currently in New Zealand representing the India A team. The final and last one day game of this tour will be played on December 11th while Mumbai’s encounter with Baroda in the Ranji Trophy will start on December 14th.

The team management is confident that Iyer will make it to the team just in time. The right-hand batsman has remained prolific for Mumbai in the recent years. He slammed 1321 runs in the 2015-16 Ranji trophy season and in the next season added 725 more runs.

Iyer averages an impressive 51.76 in 84 first-class innings and has scored 4193 runs. What makes his record even more special is the fact that he has scored these runs at an average of 79.53.

The team management has decided to drop former captain, Suryakumar Yadav and Arman Jaffer. Yadav who has led Mumbai to the Ranji Trophy title in the past is going through a lean patch in this season.

He has scored only 230 runs at an average of 32.85 while Jaffer failed to make an impact in the limited chances he got in this season.

Mumbai struggling in this year’s Ranji trophy 

After playing four games, Mumbai is at number eighth place among nine teams in the Elite Group A. The team is yet to win any game so far and has drawn three and lost one game.
