The UAE cricket board has announced the squad for the upcoming Netherlands tour and the squad includes several players who were supposed to play in the Global T20 Canada. This means these UAE players will miss out playing the T20 tournament as they will be on their national duty.
Goal is to secure direct qualification to World T20: UAE cheif selector
Waleed Bukhatir, Emirates Cricket Board Member and Chief Selector stated that the ICC World T20 qualifiers are fast approaching and it is their goal to finish well within the top six, subsequently securing direct qualification into the main tournament.
He noted that while the team has remained exceptionally committed to their fitness and skills sessions, preparations now need to be taken a step further. He feels that this bilateral series with the Netherlands will provide a strong platform to consolidate their efforts, assess performance and implement programmes for further development.
Chirag Suri, Rohan Mustaza, Zahoor Khan to miss Global T20 Canada:
UAE will play four T20I matches against Netherlands between August 03 to August 08. The Global T20 Canada tournament will be played between July 25 2019 to 11 August 2019.
Thus players like Chirag Suri, Rohan Mustaza, Rameez Shahzad, Mohammad Naved, Ghulam Shabbir, and Zahoor Khan will most probably miss most of the T20 tournament. It is still unclear whether these players will be replaced or not.
