Bumrah is unplayable at this stage, says Daniel Vettori

Former New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori has praised Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah saying that he is ‘basically unplayable at this stage’. He is the leading wicket-taker for India with 17 wickets under his belt from eight innings. Currently, he sits on the third spot in the list of highest wicket-takers of the tournament along with New Zealand’s Lockie Ferguson.

Australia’s Mitchell Starc has claimed the highest number of wickets in the ICC World Cup 2019 i.e., 26 wickets in nine matches while Mustafizur Rahman has taken 20 wickets in eight matches. However, Bumrah boasts of the best economy among the top wicket-takers and has bowled the most numbers of maidens in the tournament (8). Daniel Vettori has cautioned New Zealand against Bumrah and has warned them to face him carefully.

England maintained a calmer approach against Bumrah: Vettori

“Jasprit Bumrah is unplayable at this stage, he was at his best even when England were smashing every other bowler of India. They targeted everyone but maintained a calmer approach against Bumrah.”

“They even played Hardik Pandya and Mohammad Shami aggressively and scored runs against the spinners as well.”

He also advised the blackcaps to play with the intent of taking wickets as first ten overs would be very crucial for them. He said that the Men in Blue are the best at assessing the conditions and adjusting their batting according to the conditions. “They need to take early wickets. If they manage to take wickets right from the outset and get to the middle order, then they would stand a chance,” he added.

“Trent Boult will be the key player for New Zealand. He knows the techniques of Indian batsmen very well. Moreover, they have played each other on numerous occasions. They must have their plans in place.”

“They should stay aggressive, bowl to get wickets and let Trent Boult bowl.”
