Watch: Bizarre moment as stump mic saves Meg Lanning from losing her wicket

The Australian women’s team captain, Meg Lanning was involved in a bizarre incident which eventually assisted her in not losing her wicket in the final of the T20 tri-series against India.

While batting first, Australia was doing decently well with the score at 96/2 in the 14th over with Beth Mooney and Meg Lanning in the middle. During that over, Lanning nudged the ball to the mid-off region for a quick single. Shikha Pandey pounced on the ball and threw at the stumps with immediate effect. The white leather looked certain to crash on to the wickets as Lanning was nowhere near the crease in spite of her attempted dive.

But somehow, the skipper was able to dodge that bullet. Shikha Pandey’s throw ended up landing just a few inches short of the stumps as the ball struck the little box in the ground that has the stump microphone cables stuffed within. The ball, eventually ricochet from the side of the wickets by a considerable margin which stunned everyone within the ground as well as those watching from outside.

Meg Lanning had no idea of how she survived as she looked up in surprise and went for the second run on the overthrow.

The Australians compiled a total of 155/6 in 20 overs of play with Beth Mooney topping the charts courtesy an unbeaten 71*(54).  Deepti Sharma and Rajeshwari Gayakwad were the picks of the bowlers with two wickets apiece.

Jonassen’s brilliance over Mandhana’s resistance

In reply, Team India could only manage to score 144 for the fall of all 10 wickets, while falling short by 11 runs. Smriti Mandhana was the lone warrior with the bat as she scored a quickfire 66 (37). Barring Mandhana, none of the players went past an individual score of 20. Jess Jonassen was the one who caused havoc with the ball and bagged a fifer for just 12 runs in four overs which bagged Australia the series.
