Is there anything that Ben Stokes cannot do on a cricket field? The Star all-rounder impressed with both the bat and ball in the last Test match against West Indies in Manchester. To add to that he showed incredible commitment in the field, the proof of which can be understood from just one incident where he chased the cricket ball and saved a boundary of his own bowling.
Ben Stokes saves a boundary of his own bowling
The Old Trafford in Manchester witnessed a full-fledged all-round performance from England all-rounder Ben Stokes. Apart from his stellar performance with the bat and ball, he showed incredible commitment in the field.
One stunning incident took place in the 43rd over of West Indies’ second innings, where Ben Stokes ran and saved a boundary of his own bowling. Windies batsman Jermaine Blackwood played Stokes’s delivery to the mid-off area. Stokes who bowled round the wicket turned back and chased the ball realizing that there were no fielders in that region.
Stokes put in a dive to stop the ball from crossing the ropes. He successfully restricted the ball from clearing the boundary but his effort went in vain as the Windies batsmen ran four runs during the course of time. What made this effort praiseworthy is due to the fact that he bowled a continuous seven-over spell before showcasing this incredible fielding ability.
There's commitment.
And there is Ben Stokes' idea of commitment.

Ben Stokes moves up in the ICC rankings
Outstanding all-round performance in the second Test match helped Stokes to claim the top spot in the ICC Men’s all-rounder’s rankings. He overtook the Windies captain Jason Holder courtesy of his 176 and 78 not out with the bat and three wickets with the ball. He now has a whopping 38 point lead over Holder. This is for the first time since the last 18 months that Jason Holder has moved down from the number one position in the ICC all-rounders ranking.
Meanwhile, Stokes also achieved gains in the ICC Test batsman’s rankings as well. He now sits at the third spot just below Indian captain Virat Kohli and Australian batsman Steve Smith.
