Australia vs West Indies 1st Test: The first Test match between hosts Australia and West Indies is scheduled to be played at the Optus Stadium in Perth starting from 30 November, 2022 (Wednesday). Australia levelled their last Test series in Sri Lanka by a 1-1 margin earlier this year and also won a historic series against Pakistan in their own backyard. On the other hand, it will be a stern task for the visiting West Indies team to put up a competitive show in this two-match Test series in Australia.
Australia vs West Indies 1st Test: Perth Pitch Report, Team Records at Optus Stadium
The pitch at the Optus Stadium in Perth normally offers a pretty helpful track for the fast bowler as they tend to generate some great quality of bounce. As seen during the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup 2022, the pacers extracted a lot of assistance from the pitch and things were really tough for the batsmen to adjust. The pitch curator noted that there is 12mm of grass left on the track on the eve of the Australia vs West Indies 1st Test match but it will be trimmed down a bit before the toss on Wednesday. However, the pace bowlers from both Australia and West Indies will enjoy playing on this venue.
Incidentally, Australia’s senior off-spinner Nathan Lyon has an amazing record at the Optus Stadium as he has picked up as many as 14 wickets from just 2 Tests at an average of less than 16. During the last 5 Test matches in Perth between these two teams, West Indies have had the upper hand with three wins while Australia has two recent victories in 2000 and 2009.
