ऑस्ट्रेलियन क्रिकेट के इतिहास में ऐसा पहली बार हुआ है जब टीम के लिए दो उपकप्तान नियुक्त किए गए हैं. गौरतलब है कि जोश हेजलवुड और आलराउंडर मिचेल मार्श को टीम का उपकप्तान नियुक्त किया गया है. वीरवार को ऑस्ट्रेलिया के औपचारिक क्रिकेट बोर्ड द्वारा यह घोषणा की गई.

क्रिकेट ऑस्ट्रेलिया द्वारा वीरवार को यह घोषणा की गई कि टिम पैन की कप्तानी में दो उपकप्तान टीम में खेलेंगे. गौरतलब है कि जस्टिन लैंगर द्वारा बनाई गई खेल नीति का चुनाव करते हुए क्रिकेट ऑस्ट्रेलिया ने दो उपकप्तान नियुक्त किए हैं.

हेजलवुड तीसरे ऐसे तेज गेंदबाज हैं जिन्हे उपकप्तान बनाया गया है, उनसे पहले रोडने हॉग और जेफ थामसन थे जिन्हे 1970 और 1980 में उपकप्तान बनाया गया था.

टीम के सदस्यों से वोटिंग कराने के बाद, हेजलवुड और मार्श को टीम का उपकप्तान नियुक्त किया गया. जिस पैनल से सलाह ली गई उस पैनल में पूर्व टेस्ट कप्तान ग्रेग चैपल, मार्क टेलर, क्रिकेट ऑस्ट्रेलिया के चेयरमैन डेविड पीवर, पैट हॉवर्ड, चयनकर्ता ट्रेवर होंस और मनोचिकित्सक डॉक्टर माइकल लॉयड.

होंस ने समझाया कि, ” यह ऑस्ट्रेलिया के अगले कप्तान को ढूंढने के लिए नहीं किया गया था, ऐसा इसलिए किया गया ताकि दो उपकप्तान टीम को ज्यादा सहायता दे सकें.”

होंस ने जोश और मार्श की तारीफ करते हुए कहा कि यह काफी अच्छा है खिलाड़ी आगे आ रहे हैं, पर इनमें से किसी को भी पैन का उत्तराधिकारी नहीं माना जा सकता.

” जस्टिन लैंगर और टिम पैन टेस्ट टीम के बारे में बिल्कुल साफ रवैया रखते हैं, और उनके साथ जोश और मिचेल मार्श भी अब कप्तान को सहायता देने के लिए तैयार हैं”

होंस ने आगे कहा कि, “हमारी कोशिश है कि हम खिलाड़ियों को सही दिशा दे और यह हमारी खुशनसीबी है कि हमारे पास इतने सारे अच्छे युवा खिलाड़ी है. और ये सभी युवा खिलाड़ी खेल भावना से लबरेज हैं. “

गौरतलब है कि मार्श टिम पेन के लिए पहले मुकाबले में उपकप्तान के रूप में भूमिका अदा करेंगे. जोश चोट के कारण पहले मुकाबले से बाहर हैं.

Australia unveils two vice-captains to serve as deputy to Tim Paine

For the first time in their history, Australia has unveiled two new vice-captains for the Test side, with fast bowler Josh Hazlewood and all-rounder Mitchell Marsh appointed to the coveted position after a tedious selection process; Cricket Australia announced on Thursday.

In a first for one of Cricket’s flagship side, Cricket Australia announced that the dual deputies to the incumbent Tim Paine have been chosen following an application system adopted by Justin Langer from the AFL that featured a player vote.

“I’m very proud,” Marsh was quoted by cricket.com.au in Dubai after his appointment was confirmed to the Test squad.

“We’ve been through this process over the last couple of months as a team and to have my teammates vote me in and myself into this position, I’m very proud. Hopefully I’ll do the job justice.”

Hazlewood becomes just the third specialist fast bowler to hold the coveted vice-captain position after Rodney Hogg and Jeff Thomson, who held the post briefly during the 1970s and ’80s respectively.

“Josh and I will do everything we can to make Tim Paine’s life easier, that’s how I see the vice-captaincy role. Like every other person in this team, we’ll lead to the best of our ability in Australian cricket.”

After an unprecedented poll from the playing group, Hazlewood and Marsh were selected to present to a panel consisting of coach Langer, former Test skipper in Greg Chappell and Mark Taylor, CA Board chairman David Peever, high-performance boss Pat Howard, selection chief Trevor Hohns and psychologist Dr Michael Lloyd.

“It was not a process designed to find the next Australian Test Captain, but to find two vice-captains who will support and help drive the team’s goals and objectives,” Hohns explained.

Hohns praised the leadership qualities that Hazlewood and Marsh bring to the table but stressed the process shouldn’t be taken as a suggestion wither player is viewed as Paine’s successor.

“Justin Langer and Tim Paine have a clear vision for the Test team, and Josh and Mitch are invested and ready to support the coach and captain on this journey.

“Our vision is to create great cricketers and great people, and we are extremely fortunate to have such terrific young men charged with the responsibility of upholding the high standards and values we and Australian cricket fans expect of their Test team,” added Hohns.

Marsh, will, however, will act as a sole vice-captain to Tim Paine in Australia’s first Test assignment since the Cape Town ball-tampering scandal against Pakistan next month, with Josh Hazlewood missing out due to injury.
