Jess Jonassen and Nicole Bolton inducted in the Australian squad for the Women’s World T20 2018. Apart from the new entries, the team management hadn’t made changes with the previous picks against New Zealand at home.
Earlier, the same team combination barring Jess Jonassen and Nicole Bolton won the T20 series against New Zealand. Now, they have decided to go with the same winning equation once again in Women’s World T20.
All-rounder Jess Jonassen and opener Nicole Bolton were the two new names considered into the squad ahead of the marquee event in November. Jonassen hadn’t been a regular name for the team previously because of her knee surgery; even she has to prove her fitness before entering into the playing XI. Jonassen is also included into the ODI squad against Pakistan women in late October afterwards the team will travel to the Caribbean for the World event.
Nicole Bolton is a big name for the team as she played 44 One-day-internationals and two T20Is, but she hadn’t played the T20I format in the last two years. Nicole is inducted only on the bases of her performance in the Women’s Big Bash League where she finished third as the leading run scorer of the event. Nicole also impressed in England’s T20 competition.
“There are only two players that come into the limited-over-format that didn’t take part in the recent series against New Zealand, which is pleasing. It means we have a stable playing side that is gelling well,” said Shawn Flegler, national Selector of Australian women’s team.

“Nicole’s generally been considered a 50-over specialist, but she’s working to improve her T-20 game, and she proved it in the recent T20 competitions in England and Australia”, added Shawn.
It shows that their focus will be initially on the Pakistan series to plan out the ICC Women’s World T20 2018. Here winning the series against Pakistan will also help Australians to make space in 50-over World Cup 2021 by notching points on the table of ICC Women’s Championships points table.
