The big news is that Aussie captain Pat Cummins will not be available for the day-night Test match between Australia and West Indies starting from Thursday due to a quadriceps strain as informed by Cricket Australia (CA). The other major update is that star batsman Steve Smith will captain the Australia Test team for the first time since the Cape Town ball-tampering scandal in 2018. Smith has been named as the stand-in captain for the upcoming AUS vs WI second and final Test match. It is also confirmed that right-arm pacer Scott Boland will replace Pat Cummins in the Australia playing 11. Cummins sustained the injury during the first Test against the Windies team and did not bowl in the second innings after having picked up three wickets in the first innings.
“Steve Smith will captain Australia in Adelaide for a second straight year after Pat Cummins was ruled out of the day-night NRMA Insurance Test against West Indies due to a quad strain,” said an official statement released by Cricket Australia.
