AUS vs SL: In a massive breaking news, Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga has tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of the third T20I game against Australia scheduled on 15 February at the Manuka Oval in Canberra. Hosts Australia have currently taken a 2-0 lead in the five-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. The Aussies registered an incredible victory in the Super Over during the second T20I match.
AUS vs SL: Wanindu Hasaranga Out of 3rd T20I?
In a big blow for the visiting Sri Lankan team, leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga has tested positive for COVID-19 during a routine Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted on 15 February (Tuesday) morning. Hasaranga is currently undergoing the necessary Covid-19 protocols while being placed in isolation. He will not take part in the third T20I game against Australia on Tuesday.
It is quite certain that he will not be able to take part in the rest of the Australia vs Sri Lanka T20I series. Wanindu Hasaranga has picked up as many as five wickets in the two T20I matches against Australia so far including brilliant figures of 3 for 38 in the opening game.
“He has some mild symptoms, some body aches. We think he probably contracted it from Binura. Unfortunately there’s no way that he’ll be able to play again on the tour, as he can only start training after three negative PCRs. After this tour, we’re going straight to India, so the aim now is to get him fit for that,” said Arjuna de Silva, head of SLC’s medical department.

In another news, Kusal Mendis who tested positive for COVID-19 before the start of the T20I series, has now completely recovered from the virus. Mendis will be available for selection in the 3rd T20I against Australia and had also joined the national side on Monday following medical clearance. He is very much likely to replace out of form Danushka Gunathilaka in the Sri Lanka playing 11 while one of Praveen Jayawickrama or Ramesh Mendis will come in the side for Wanindu Hasaranga. Sri Lanka are in a desperate situation right now as they need to win this third match to keep this five-match T20I series alive.
