On the eve of the Boxing Day Test match against South Africa, Aussie captain Pat Cummins announced an unchanged playing 11 from the opening Test in Brisbane. Cummins also stated that their premier pace bowler Josh Hazlewood is still not completely fit after having missed the opening Test against the Proteas due to a side strain. This means that right-arm pacer Scott Boland retains his place in the Australian Test team for the 2nd Test against South Africa. Australia’s senior opening batsman David Warner will be playing his 100th Test match starting from Monday.
“We gave Joshy (Hazlewood) every chance, (but) it just got to a stage where (he) more than anyone else felt like he was a little bit underdone,” Australia captain Pat Cummins told reporters on Christmas morning.
“It’s a mark of the man really, he himself said ‘don’t feel quite right’ so he kind of pulled himself out of selection. We talk a lot about how (as) a team we need a squad mentality and I think it’s another great example,” he added.
