Things have started to fall apart for defending champions Australia just before the semi-finals. They lost their last league match against South Africa and now their two crucial players Usman Khawaja and Marcus Stoinis are facing injuries. Khawaja has been officially ruled out while Stoinis is doubtful for the game.
Meanwhile the team management has called Matthew Wade to replace Khawaja while Mitchell Marsh has been roped in as the cover for Stoinis.

Usman Khawaja strained his hamstring while batting against South Africa. He went off the field and although he came back afterwards to resume batting he wasn’t looking fully fit.
After the match Australian skipper Aaron Finch said that it doesn’t look ideal for Usman. He explained that Khawaja will have a scan on Sunday and if they need a replacement – and he thinks they will – but until you get the definitive scan it’s hard to know.
He made it clear that it it is not looking great for Khawaja in all honesty. He’s done a couple of hamstrings before and he said it feels a bit similar.
Stoinis to undergo scans as well
Apart from Khawaja, Australia will be worried about Marcus Stoinis as well. Stoinis was seen in pain after he threw a ball from the boundary during the South Africa game and bowled only three overs.
He needed some medical attention during batting and was finally run-out. Finch stated that Stoinis will be undergoing a scan as well.
Wade and Mitchell Marsh as cover for Stoinis and Khawaja
Australia’s next match in the World Cup is the all-important semi-final match against England on July 11. Wade will officially replace Khawaja in the tournament which means Khawaja will no longer play in the tournament.
Australia has already lost Shaun Marsh due to injury and he has been replaced by Peter Handscomb.
