Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh is set to miss the first ODI against India as he is still recovering from gastritis at the hospital for the past couple of days. The team management has roped in uncapped Ashton Turner as a replacement for Marsh.
Langer backs Turner
Aussie coach Justin Langer explained that Turner is such a great athlete, it puts so much pressure on the opposition. He noted that one of the hallmarks of great Australian teams, you think about Dean Jones and Michael Bevan and Michael Hussey, is the running between the wickets.
He stated that it is a basic skill but they have also been talking about getting players who can finish off innings and Turner has shown that in Big Bash cricket and he is in great form.
Turner’s running between the wicket unbelievable: Langer
Langer was full of praise for Turner and his athletism. He stated that he remembers when Mike Hussey came into Australian cricket, the thing that almost got him a shot in the one-day side was his running between his wickets. He feels that the way Turner runs between wickets is unbelievable.
Langer feels the right-hand batsman can finish the innings off well, an elite athlete in the field and he’s also a captain.
The Aussie coach noted that he is a good thinker of the game like most of the great finishes and a really good leader, good person around the group and he is very excited to see him come in.
Australia thinking of playing two spinners vs India
At the same time, Langer indicated that they might play two spinners. He admitted that there might be opportunities for them to play together. He feels it perhaps changes a bit with Mitch Marsh; they could have had maybe the two medium-pace options as the extra quick. That might change a bit now.

He agreed that a lot of the teams around the world are doing playing two spinners and there’s no doubt India will do it against them. He feels it would be good to have a legspinner and an offspinner – Glenn Maxwell bowls offspin as well. They will have some good combinations there.
