One of the leading picks for the role of captaincy has to be Shreyas Iyer who has shown his leadership skills during the IPL with the Delhi Capitals. He was handed over the reigns of the struggling franchise at a time when things were not going well for the franchise but took this as a challenge and managed to turn things around for them. He is a natural leader who isn’t very expressive on the field but often delivers inconspicuously.

He took Delhi Capitals to the finals of the 2020 season and sealed while they lost in the finals, it was evident that India have found a leader in their ranks. One who could be looked at in future for the big ticket job. He suffered an injury which kept him away from the first half of the IPL, but could be back for the second half in UAE.

Shreyas Iyer has been playing well on the batting front too and is surely going to be a regular soon in the ODI squad. He is yet to play a test match for the national team.
