2023 IPL Auction are all set to take place on December 23 at Kochi. All the franchise would be looking to bolster their respective IPL 2023 squads and it will be hard fought battle between all the franchises on the auction day. We have come up here with 5 such Indian veterans who could remain unsold at the 2023 IPL Auction.
1. Ajinkya Rahane
Ajinkya Rahane is a veteran in the IPL. However, he hasn’t been at his best in the last few editions and is expected to remain unsold this year. His services were acquired by Kolkata Knight Riders last year for a base price of INR 1 Crore, but the veteran failed to deliver and didn’t saw himself featuring in the eleven on a regular basis. We might have seen the last of Ajinkya Rahane in IPL in the 2022 edition.
2. Piyush Chawla
With younger prospects rising through the ranks in the leg-spin department, it is highly unlikely that we might see Piyush Chawla getting picked by a franchise in this edition. The leggy was picked by Mumbai Indians in the 2020 edition and picked 6 wickets from 7 games and managed to play only a solitary game in the following edition. He remained unsold in 2022 and his fate could be the same in this year’s auction as well.
3. Ishant Sharma
Ishant Sharma is one of the most decorated Indian pacers in Test cricket. He is only the second Indian pacer with 100 or more appearances. He has been bowling actively in Red ball cricket, but when it comes to the White ball, he barely plays any competition. After remaining unsold in the 2022 mega auctions, the tall lanky pacer could once again remain unsold in the IPL 2023 auctions.
4. Karun Nair
Karun Nair will always be remembered as only the second Indian after Virender Sehwag to score a triple ton in Test cricket. This reputation helped him to be a regular in the IPL over the years, however, he hasn’t been at his best in the cash-rich league ever since 2019. He featured for the runners-up Rajasthan Royals last year but could only manage 3 matches and scored 16 runs. With the competition among the domestic youngsters getting stiff, Karun Nair might remain unsold for this season.
5. Manish Pandey
Another talented batter who is really struggling to get going from the past few years is Manish Pandey. Having played the last edition for the newcomers Lucknow Super Giants for INR 4.6 Crores, Manish failed to excel in the opportunities he got at the franchise scoring only 88 from 6 innings at a sorry average of 14.67. After how Manish performed in the last edition, it would be a tricky task for him to get hold to a franchise in the 2023 IPL Auctions.
