2) The Greg Chappel Saga
In 2005, when Greg Chappel was appointed the coach of the Indian cricket team, it was not meant to be one of the controversies of Indian cricket of the affects of the match fixing scandal were a thing of the past and Indian cricket under Saurav Ganguly and John Wright had well and truly moved on. After John Wright’s tenure was over, India were looking to make it bigger and go one better from their finalist performance of 2003 world cup.
With eyes on the 2007 world cup and a lot of players in the prime of their careers, Greg was appointed the coach of the cricket team. His ways and means were not something that the Indian cricketers took to too kindly. His appointment was followed by Ganguly being dropped and Rahul Dravid replacing him as the skipper.
The era culminated with a horror show at the 2007 world cup when the team bowed out in the first round itself. A lot has been since said from both sides and a lot of other cricketers who were present during that era have said a lot about this time.
