Indian cricketing history has always been rich in terms of batting. India has been a production house of great batsmen. The likes of Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengasarkar, K Srikkanth, Navjot Sidhu, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, etc have taken Indian cricket to great heights.
In contrast to India’s bowling, their batting has always been a talking point. But, the current Indian team is filled with extraordinary bowling talents with the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravichandran Ashwin etc.
Well, the aforementioned names are the modern greats, but there was a time when some names definitely made their presence felt amidst the accolades showered on the Indian batsman. In this comprehension, we will be discussing about the top 5 ODI bowlers in Indian history. Here’s our collection;
5. Harbhajan Singh
‘The Turbanator’ of Indian cricket is yet to hang his boots. The veteran off-spinner has produced many memorable spells for Indian cricket. Who can forget a young lad completely ruffling the Australians in Kolkata on March 11, 2001 with a hat-trick.
Well, that was a Test match, but that spell helped him become an overnight sensation and a household name. Later, Harbhajan Singh went onto become one of the finest off-spinners in the game and clinched 265 ODI wickets from 234 matches at an exceptional economy rate of 4.30.
4. Zaheer Khan
Zaheer Khan’s contribution in the 2011 World Cup has been etched in the history books already. Ever since the likes of Venkatesh Prasad and Javagal Srinath retired, Zaheer was the in-charge of India’s pace department.
A glorious career which lasted for 194 ODI’s, the left-armer scalped 269 wickets at an economy rate of 4.95. The biggest weapon in his arsenal was reverse swing which has troubled many batsmen during his playing days.
He was around at the start of the budding talents like Irfan Pathan, Ishant Sharma, RP Singh, S Sreesanth, etc, and has been a guiding force to these lads throughout their careers.
