India have faced a huge setback ahead of the T20 world cup in Australia. Their lead bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the squad due to back pain. He has been ruled out of the action indefinitely and India need to name a replacement for Jasprit Bumrah for the world cup.
Lets take a look at 3 options that India can consider in replacing Jasprit Bumrah.
-
Deepak Chahar
Deepak Chahar is already in the reserves for the world cup. He is a fantastic new ball bowler, he missed the IPL 2022, but came back with a bang against Zimbabwe. He is also currently playing against South Africa and bowled brilliantly with the new ball. He is also a handy batsman lower down the order.
The big disadvantage with him is his natural length which could be hit me balls in Australia where even swing is minimal. India also wouldn’t get much out of him anywhere outside powerplay. He is one of the options to replace Jasprit Bumrah.

Mohammad Shami
Mohammad Shami has the pace to match Jasprit Bumrah and arguably better new ball bowler in T20Is than Jasprit Bumrah. He hasn’t had much of a game time in the recent past, he was supposed to play in the recently concluded series against Australia and the ongoing series against South Africa but after having tested for covid positive, he was ruled out. He is in the reserves as well, and it would be the only wise move to draft Mohammad Shami

Avesh Khan
Avesh Khan was given a long rope by the Indian management since the 2022 T20 world cup but he wasn’t really grabbing the opportunities with both the hands. He was bowling poorly more often than not which made the management to go past him and look for different options very close to the world cup. With Jasprit Bumrah out of the picture, India could well go back to Avesh Khan as the replacement.
