Australia vs England: England suffered a 72-run loss to Australia in the 2nd ODI held in Sydney. With this loss, they lost the 3-match ODI series. Now both sides will move to the iconic MCG for the 3rd and final ODI. With the series already decided, both sides are expected to make some significant changes to their playing XIs. Many of the players who were benched for the last two ODIs may get the nod. Let’s see what possible changes England is likely to make for this fixture.
1. Jos Buttler to replace Liam Dawson
One sure change expected for the 3rd ODI is the presence of England captain Jos Buttler. He was rested for the 2nd ODI to manage his workload. Now with the series already lost, he would most surely break into the XI to prevent a whitewash. He is expected to come back and replace Liam Dawson in the playing XI. Dawson hasn’t fired so far in this series and may get replaced.
2. Chris Jordan to replace Sam Curran
Man of the tournament from the recently concluded T20 World Cup, Sam Curran might be rested for the 3rd ODI. He was rested for the 1st ODI and came into the side for the 2nd ODI. Now with the series already decided, England may give rest to their star all-rounder. Jordan who played in the 1st ODI may replace him in the XI.
3. Olly Stone to replace Woakes
English all-rounder Chris Woakes might get rested for the 3rd ODI. He is very injury prone and is key to England’s roadmap for the upcoming ODI World Cup in 2023. Now with the series already decided, England may not risk him by playing him in a dead rubber. Olly Stone, who is yet to get a game in this series may replace him in the eleven for the 3rd ODI to be held in MCG.
