Having witnessed cricket over the years, one thing is for sure we all enjoy last over thriller. However, how many runs do you think is safe to have in your bag going into the last over of ODI or T20 match? Well, you could say 10, 15 or 20 runs. But there are a few batsmen in this world who have the ability to easily score that as well. So, we decided to set the bar a little higher and make a list of the 3 batsmen who can score 25 runs in the last over to win a T20I or ODI:
1. Andre Russell
There is no doubt Andre Russell is one of the best timers of the cricket ball in the current day and age. The West Indian is a powerful hitter of the ball and can smack any bowler out of the stadium. In the last season of the IPL, we witnessed what was some tremendous batting from the all-rounder. Playing for Kolkata Knight Riders, Russell smashed 48 runs off just 13 balls in a match against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the tough run chase. As a matter of fact, Kolkata needed more than 50 runs to win from the last 3 overs and by the time, Russell got the chase over, 5 balls were still left. He had developed the habit of getting KKR out of jail last season as he had pulled such an act a few more times. His overall strike rate was above 200 through the tournament. I think we have made our point why we think ‘Dre Russ’ can score 25 runs in last over to win a match.
2. AB de Villiers
If you didn’t see this coming, you are not a big ABD fan. The South African legend, AB de Villiers has the ability to hit any bowler out of the ground. He is fondly called ‘Mr 360’ by fans and experts just for his ability to hit the ball to all parts off the ground. There have been several instances where we have seen ABD do something unthinkable. The former Protea plays best of innovative shots when the team is under pressure. Well, that’s what makes him such a huge legend of the game. There have many instances in the Indian Premier League where he has smashed bowlers all over the park in the death overs. Well, we haven’t seen him score 25 runs in the last over to win a match yet. However, if you put him in the spot surely, he will do it.
3. MS Dhoni
Well if there is anybody whom you don’t want to bowl in the final over of a match, it has to be this man from Ranchi. We have seen that MS Dhoni is probably the most destructively consistent batsman in the last over of an innings. In fact, during the last season of the IPL, MSD almost won a match when his side needed 26 runs to win from the last over against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Chennai ended up losing the match by just one run. A few seasons ago, in a last over run-chase, 23 runs were required to win a match for Pune Supergiants. Guess what? Dhoni did it. Basically, no matter how many runs you have under your belt going into the last over, if MSD is on strike, you can only depend on your luck.
