UPDATED ICC World Test Championship Points Table: Scenarios for India, England and Australia to qualify for final

England’s 227 runs win over India in the opening Test at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai has resulted in some major shifts in the ICC World Test Championship points table. Chasing 420, India were bowled out for 192 in the second innings on Day 5 handing England 1-0 lead in the ongoing 4 matches Test series and also their biggest Test win on Indian soil.
At the beginning of the India vs England Test series, the hosts were comfortably sitting at the first spot of the ICC World Test Championship points table with England at the fourth spot. But, the two teams have now swapped places following the conclusion of the first test at Chennai today.

The updated ICC World Test Championship points table –
In the updated ICC World Test Championship points table, England is sitting at the top of the table with 70.2 PCT following their 11th victory in the current cycle. New Zealand, who has already made the cut for the final to be played at the Lord’s, has 70 PCT and is sitting at the second spot. Australia has grabbed the third spot and still has a chance to reach the final.
The new scenarios for India, England, and Australia
India’s scenarios: They have to win by 2-0, 2-1, 3-0, 3-1, and 4-0. Any other result and they will have to bid goodbye to their chances.
England’s scenarios: They have to win the ongoing series by 4-0, 3-0, or 3-1.
Australia’s scenarios: England wins 0-1 or 0-2, and 1-2; India wins 1-0; Series ends in a draw.

The second Test of the four-match series will also be played at the same venue with probably a different nature of the track. The second India vs England Test starts on February 13.
