Mushfiqur Rahim’s blistering knock of 144 may have been the cornerstone of Bangladesh’s sensational 137 run victory over Sri Lanka but it was Tamim Iqbal who stole the headlines on Saturday courtesy of his heroic effort.
Tamim retired hurt in the second over
The Bangladesh opener got himself injured in the second over of the match when he tried to pull Sri Lanka pacer Suranga Lakmal.
Lakmal’s delivery was too much to handle for the batsman and it crashed on his left elbow. The blow was so severe that the Bangladesh opener straightway asked for medical attention and soon left the field on an individual score of 2 runs off 3 balls.
The left-hand batsman was immediately taken to the hospital to check the severity of the injury. Unfortunately for Tamim, the scan revealed crack on the outside of his index finger. This injury has ended the Asia Cup for the opening batsman as he won’t be featuring in any further games in this tournament.

However, the team needed Tamim’s service in the death overs as Rahim ran out of partners. Bangladesh lost their ninth wicket with 19 balls left in the innings and hence Tamim had to come to bat to ensure Rahim got a chance to increase the score in the last three overs.
He played only one ball during his stay at the crease with Rahim but his contribution was vital as the last wicket added 31 runs for Bangladesh.

The Bangladesh batsman used only one hand while playing Lakmal’s delivery in the 47th over. He dead-batted a short delivery that was aimed at his body to safeguard his wicket. This ensured that Rahim received 18 balls to inflict further damage. Rahim made no mistake and hammered 31 runs to put a total which was beyond the reach of Sri Lanka.

Tamim Iqbal batting with one hand and the other hanging out of his glove with a taped wrist.
This is either brave or stupid, and often there is a very fine line between the two. #BANvSL #AsiaCup2018
